Kansas City carpenters now have access to comprehensive, no-cost healthcare with the opening of the Carpenters Wellness Center.
Facility created through a partnership between the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council (MACRC) and Premise Health.
The state-of-the-art wellness center aims to provide accessible, high-quality care to union members and their families, reinforcing a commitment to worker health and well-being.
The new facility, located at 8965 E. 38th Terrace, is part of a larger effort by the Carpenters Union to improve healthcare access, reduce medical costs, and promote preventive care for members.

A New Approach to Union Healthcare
Unlike traditional healthcare settings where out-of-pocket costs can discourage visits, the Carpenters Wellness Center operates with no co-pays, no deductibles, and no surprise bills for eligible union members and their dependents.
“We want to ensure our members have access to top-tier healthcare without worrying about cost.
This center is an investment in their health, longevity, and quality of life,” said Gary Perinar, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of MACRC.
The facility is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., making it easier for members to access healthcare without disrupting their work schedules.
What Services Are Offered?
The Carpenters Wellness Center provides a full range of medical services, ensuring that members can receive preventive care, chronic disease management, and specialized treatments all in one place.
- Primary Care – Routine check-ups, preventive screenings, and chronic disease management.
- On-Site Pharmacy – Convenient prescription services without long waits or high costs.
- Behavioral Health – Mental health support, therapy, and stress management resources.
- Chiropractic Care – Treatment for work-related back pain, joint issues, and mobility concerns.
- Virtual Health Options – Telehealth appointments via My Premise Health, allowing members to connect with providers remotely.
The wellness center is designed to provide union workers with the care they need, when they need it, reducing unnecessary ER visits and ensuring that health issues are addressed before they become serious problems.

Why This Matters for Kansas City’s Union Workers
For years, many union workers have struggled with high healthcare costs, limited provider options, and insurance-related obstacles.
The Carpenters Wellness Center removes those barriers, offering a union-backed solution that prioritizes workers’ health without financial strain.
“Healthcare should never be a burden,” said a MACRC representative.
“By opening this center, we’re giving our members peace of mind and a place where they know they’ll be treated with respect and quality care.”
With many construction jobs requiring physically demanding labor, injuries and chronic pain are common.
The availability of chiropractic care and physical therapy ensures that carpenters can recover faster and stay on the job longer, an investment in both worker well-being and the strength of the industry.
A Model for Union-Led Healthcare Solutions
This wellness center is part of a growing trend among labor unions to take healthcare into their own hands, moving away from expensive private insurance plans and creating member-focused health systems.
What Makes This Model Work?
- Cost-Free Care – Members and families receive medical services without co-pays or hidden fees.
- Personalized Attention – Healthcare providers understand the unique needs of union workers.
- Convenience – Located close to job sites, making it easy to access care without missing work.
- Comprehensive Services – Everything from mental health support to primary care in one facility.
This initiative reflects a broader shift in how unions are addressing healthcare. By creating their own solutions rather than relying on a flawed system that often prioritizes profits over people.
